SYNOPSES:
Barbers – A Men’s Story
Often acting as a confidant, the barber has always been at the heart of society and its evolution. Once a highly respected member of society, the barber does more than just cut hair and shave beards, that molto delicato art. His is one of the oldest professions in the world, which many fear is on the verge of extinction—taking with it its cozy salons and traditional barbers’ chairs. “Barbers – A Men’s Story” takes us into barbershops, a haven where men can talk freely among themselves. The film features barbers who describe their love and passion for their work. These endearing and dedicated men, who have been their customers’ trusted confidants for decades, are approaching the twilight of their careers in a trade that is slowly dying out.
In Between Walls
When our lives are full of contradictions, yearning for home becomes present…
this story is about two Ukranians: Sergey and Eduard, who are illegal, immigrants in Portugal. They work as construction workers in the suburbs of Lisbon. The two of them share a converted garage with three other illegal Ukranian immigrants. Their life in the garage is very basic and dull, but their inner life is full of contradictory feelings and nostalgia. The film describes their final months in voluntary exile, when yearning for home becomes more acute while the question of prolonging their stay arises. Finally they leave Portugal and the film follows their first days in their own country. What kind of dreams can give them the strengh to live and survive in these inhuman conditions in a faraway land?
The Old Thieves
The old thieves is the story of a generation of thieves who reached their peak in the 1960’s in Mexico and who are currently serving sentences in prison. It is also the story of the Mexican criminal underworld at that time, its codes of ethics and behavior, the diverse “categories” of the offenders who settled the city’s streets, the alliances of police authorities that allowed them to go on with their illegal activities, the treasons that came as a consequence of such alliances and the price that they wound up paying for it.
